Why Should You Volunteer?
This is adventure travel. Haven’t you wondered what it would be like to really live with the locals of a particular region? You’ll mingle with the boys, the staff, others in the village, the people in the town of Satelite and in no time at all, they’ll seem like family to you.
You’ll get involved and won’t just be vegetating during a vacation. Do something with your vacation time, make a difference, help others, feel good about yourself and enjoy the spontaneous hugs, laughter and smile of our boys.
Meet other volunteers from around the world and make some lifelong friends and contacts. Our volunteers come from Japan, Australia, Canada, the US, Ireland, the UK, Holland, Bermuda, Spain, Mexico…just to name a few. Wouldn’t it be great to have friends and contacts around the world?
You might get academic credit if you’re a high school student or a college student. Please check with your school for details. And if you’re heading off to college soon, won’t this look wonderful on your college application?
You’ll receive a tax deduction based on the U.S. 501(c)(3) statutes. You are donating to a U. S. based charity organization (Orphan’s Hope Project) and your donations and possibly your airfare are deductible. Please consult your tax expert for details.
Your Spanish skills will improve. Some of our volunteers are fluent in Spanish and some are not. We know you’ll pick up words and phrases around the kids… you have to because they don’t really speak English. And if your Spanish is advanced, it will get some practice – big time!
This experience will change you for the better. You’ll come back appreciating the comforts of home and how good our lives really are. You will grow and so will your heart.
Fatten up your resume. Imagine that resume and how it looks when you’re searching for a new job. What a topic for discussion in an interview! You’ll get extra kudos because many people are too selfish to consider working and helping others… but you, yes, you’ll stand out.
Get a little exercise. You’ll be walking the kids to school or even running up and down our hills at the orphanage. Your exercise program doesn’t need to suffer. It’s not strenuous but chasing after the boys can be fun and a big stress reliever.
Your friends and family will admire you. Not everyone will be so generous to spend their time helping others, living with children and working to make the lives of the boys better.
Are you up to the challenge? We’d love to have you work with us for a while. Aren’t these reasons enough to share your time and your heart with those who have so little? Come on, we’re waiting for you.
