More Donations

Saturday, July 14th, 2007

It’s July 14th, the day of the t-shirt fundraising party. It’s also only 4 weeks until I am in Guate again. And, in preparation of that, I am packing up another box that will get shipped. Transportes de Leon (in San Francisco) will ship a 30″ x 30″ x 30″ box for me for about $245. And the weight of the box doesn’t matter. I have to put the box together in my garage and it’s impossible for me to move it once it’s packed and sealed. It’s just too heavy. They will pick it up from me and take care of it from there. It takes about 14-18 days to get to the orphanage and it sure makes it convenient to get things to the boys. It’s just wonderful to be able to get so much stuff in the box and get it to the orphanage.

I had a 9 am visit today from JoAnn Brown. She and some friends are making blankets for the boys. I took 13 of them in April. This time, I think there are about 20 blankets in the boxes. JoAnn also brought 50 new matchbox cars and all of them are different. She brought 50 Disney washcloths. They will puff up in size when water is added to them. Pretty cool. She also brought some clothes for the boys. What a nice gift for the boys! They will enjoy everything.

I’m getting ready for the t-shirt party that’s being held tonight. You can see the story board in this picture. My laptop will be on and it will be looping a power point presentation that tells the story of the orphanage and the boys. Attendees are encouraged to buy a t-shirt to support the orphanage. You can see some of the t-shirts in this picture.

And yes, this is a picture of JoAnn and some of the donations that she brought. Thanks JoAnn!

OK…. time to get the table ready for the party !

Friday the 13th

Friday, July 13th, 2007

Some people are superstitious. I’m not. But it is Friday the 13th. What this day means to me is…. it’s the day before the Orphan’s Hope Project fundraising party. Yep… I have one more day to prepare for the party.

We’re hoping that a few people will come over tomorrow night and share some food and drink with us while watching a slide show of the boys and the orphanage. We will have Orphan’s Hope Project t-shirts available for those who want to help support our project.

Hey, it’s all for a good cause and what could be better on a warm California evening? Good food, good friends, raising awareness of the boys and raising a little bit of money for the orphanage. Oh yeah…. we’ll dance too. I like it.

If you don’t have your t-shirt yet ….. we’d be happy to get one to you.

Thanks for caring. And Happy Friday the 13th.

Pinole Youth Commission

Thursday, July 12th, 2007

Hey, it’s been a little while since I’ve written, hasn’t it? Life is a little hectic and busy.

Good news! The Pinole Youth Commission came through for the boys. Yesterday, I picked up a few bags of new items for the boys. 129 pairs of socks, underwear for all the boys and some underwear t-shirts for the boys. The Youth Commission is also writing pen pal letters to all the boys at the orphanage. That will be great. I hope we can get some of the boys to write letters back to the kids here in California.

See… teenagers do good things too. They care.
And that gives me a warm feeling. Thanks Pinole Youth teens!
